VOLCANO
BLAST COASTER PICTURES: KINGS DOMINION Photos Of The Volcano
Rollercoaster At Paramount's Kings Dominion In Virginia
Volcano The Blast Coaster is a must-see at
Paramount's King Dominion. It's one of a kind. This
suspended
steel coaster was built into a mountain (the old "Smurf
Mountain"
kiddie attraction.) When it opened it was the world's fastest
suspended
roller coaster (0-70 MPH in 3 seconds.) The themeing is
unique...
the volcano occasionally erupts in real flames.
WHAT IT'S LIKE TO RIDE VOLCANO THE BLAST COASTER
Volcano starts by drifting slowly away from the station.
A
few seconds later the train is aligned with its liner induction motor (powerful
magnets) that very suddenly fling you from zero to freeway
speeds
in a couple of seconds.
The sudden acceleration is smooth and fun. You
then make
a 180 degree while still at ground level. Your train then hits
a
second line of magnets that propel you even faster. Once
again
the acceleration is smooth and exciting.
Suddenly you enter the mountain. Before you know it you're
moving
vertically--straight up the inside of the volcano!
You get blasted out of the top of the volcano and
reemerge
into sunlight. At this incredible moment you realize you are now flying
high above the park.
You maneuver through a series of upsidedown rolls and
tight
turns. You go upsidedown a total of four times. All too
quickly
you are whisked back into the mountain the ride comes to an end.
You
leave wanting to go again and again. Volcano is a fast,
smooth and
thrilling way to fly.
Make Volcano The Blast Coaster your first stop when the park
opens.
Lines are generally long throughout the day. If you aren't
there
first thing, check to see if fast passes are being offered (so
you
can return at a scheduled time to ride.)
TIP: It's worth the extra wait time to ride Volcano in the front
seat. The feeling of flight and three dimensional freedom is
remarkable.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I've ridden many of the country's biggest
and
fastest rollercoasters. Volcano may be my all time favorite....
not
for its speed or height, but for the many unique experience it provides
in
its short duration. Don't miss this one!
